A significant educational development unfolded in Kitchener this week with the opening of three new schools, catering to students in both the Catholic and public school systems. The Waterloo Catholic District School Board inaugurated the renovated St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School, located on River Road East near Fairway Road North, while the newly built Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School opened its doors in the Rosenberg neighbourhood.

Situated at 200 Rosenberg Way, Holy Trinity is a modern, two-storey facility encompassing 53,000 square feet. The construction, which began in September 2024, came at a cost of $25.5 million and features 23 classrooms. It has welcomed approximately 525 students for the 2025/26 school year.

In the Centreville Chicopee neighbourhood, St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School has also opened its doors to over 540 students. This project, costing around $20 million, includes 88 childcare spaces in partnership with the RisingOaks Early Learning Child Care Centre.

The public school sector also made strides with the opening of Willow River Public School at 670 Thomas Slee Drive, located in southwest Kitchener. This facility serves 591 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The planning for Willow River began five years ago in July 2020, coinciding with an announcement from the Ministry of Education that allocated $25 million for the development.

These new educational institutions reflect a commitment to enhancing learning environments in Kitchener. The collaborative efforts between the school boards and the local government have aimed to address the growing demand for educational facilities in the region, ensuring that students have access to modern spaces conducive to learning.

As the new academic year unfolds, the Kitchener community looks forward to the opportunities these schools will provide for students and families alike.
