Brandon University and Assiniboine College Host Exciting Events
Brandon University and Assiniboine College are set to host a series of engaging events in March, offering students and the community a chance to participate in a variety of activities. From jazz festivals to career fairs, these events aim to enhance educational experiences and foster community connections.
Brandon University Jazz Festival Highlights Local Talent
The Brandon University Jazz Festival will take place from March 9 to March 11, featuring internationally acclaimed artists. Concerts will be held at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on Thursday and Friday at 18:30 and 21:30 each evening. Notable guest artists include Queen Cora Coleman, who has collaborated with music icons such as Prince and Beyoncé, as well as Juno nominees Shirantha Beddage and Erin Propp. For more details and ticket information, visit BUJazzFest.ca/concert-tickets.
On March 10, Parvin Ghafarian from the University of Northern British Columbia will present at the Science Seminar Series. His talk will focus on weather measurement simulations in bodies of water with complex topography. This session will begin at 14:30 in Room 4-34 of the Brodie Building and will also be available online. Interested attendees can email [email protected] for further information.
Student Support Initiatives and Community Engagement
As the semester reaches a critical juncture, Brandon University will host the Long Night Against Procrastination on March 18. The event runs from 19:00 to 02:00, providing students a dedicated space to study late into the night. Attendees can expect food, study support, and stress-relief activities, all aimed at helping students manage their workload.
On March 19, Col. Evelyn Kotzer, commander of the 38 Canadian Brigade Group, will engage students in a discussion about the role of part-time citizen soldiers in the Canadian Armed Forces. This conversation will take place in the John E. Robbins Library from 18:30 to 20:00.
At Assiniboine College, various events are also scheduled. Graduation photo sessions will occur today and Tuesday at the Victoria Avenue East campus, located in the ACSA Boardroom (room 415). Students can book their sessions through assiniboinestudents.ca.
Additionally, the Cardboard Box Challenge is set for March 16. This event encourages early learning centres and community members to bring their children to test their creativity and problem-solving skills using cardboard boxes, tape, and other materials. More information can be found at assiniboine.net/events.
On March 19, students can take advantage of the Career Fair, running from 14:00 to 17:00. This event will provide opportunities to connect with potential employers and explore various career paths. Following the fair, an alumni mixer will take place, further encouraging networking.
For those needing assistance with taxes, a free program is available at The Link, Mazergroup Main Street, co-ordinated by Prairie Mountain Health and supported by CRA-trained volunteers. Eligible students can learn more about the program at assiniboinestudents.ca/events.
Lastly, the Women’s Resource Centre will be present at the Victoria Avenue East campus on Friday from 12:30 to 13:30, offering resources and support for students seeking assistance.
These events reflect the vibrant and supportive environment at both Brandon University and Assiniboine College, providing valuable opportunities for students and the community alike.
