Community Events in PQB: Engage and Connect This March
A series of engaging community events are set to take place in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach (PQB) area during the week of March 8, 2026. Residents and visitors alike can participate in a variety of activities that cater to diverse interests, from gardening and real estate to health and the arts.
Upcoming Highlights for March 11-20
On **March 11**, the **Mount Arrowsmith Rhododendron Society (MARS)** will hold a general meeting at **7:30 p.m.** at the **Qualicum Beach Civic Centre**, located at **747 Jones Street**. The meeting will feature a presentation by **Cyndi Hampton** and **Jim Roberts** from **Streamside Native Plants**, who will discuss “Native Plants for Beauty & Diversity.”
At the **Parksville Community Centre**, a session led by brain coach **Gary Anaka** is scheduled from **10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.** This presentation will focus on maintaining and improving brain health using insights from applied educational neuroscience.
Additionally, **Berwick Parksville** will host a session titled “Spring Realty Market: Planning Your Next Move.” Organized by **Team Susan Forrest of Royal LePage Richard Plowens**, participants can gain valuable insights into selling homes and understanding current market trends. On **March 12**, the **Mid Island Floral Art Club** will meet at **1 p.m.** at **St Mark’s Church Hall**, located at **138 Hoylake Road West**. The session will focus on creating a twig or branch structure or using a clay flower frog. Guests are welcome for a fee of **$6**.
Also on this day, **PQB Fruit Tree** will present “Perennial Vegetables” with **Michalina Hunter** at **6:30 p.m.** at the **MAC Community Garden**. The workshop aims to educate participants on integrating perennial vegetables into their gardens and local ecosystems.
Artistic and Educational Opportunities
On the evening of **March 12**, **Rev. Nicole Powell** will conduct “An Evening of Mediumship and the Language of Spirit” at **Knox Church** located at **345 Pym Street, Parksville**. From **7 p.m. to 9 p.m.**, attendees can experience a live mediumship demonstration and learn about spiritual communication. A suggested donation of **$15** is appreciated.
The **Qualicum Beach Cinema Society** will present “Zootopia 2” at the **QB Legion** on **March 15**. The show begins at **noon**, with doors opening at **11:30 a.m.** Tickets are priced at **$5**. Later that day, a TIFF presentation of “The Marching Band” will take place at **3 p.m.** and **7 p.m.**, with tickets available for **$10**.
On **March 16**, the **Parksville Probus Club** will host a presentation by **John Pyrik**, a former insider of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). Starting at **9:15 a.m.**, Pyrik will address common myths and misconceptions surrounding Canada’s spy agency, discussing how CSIS is “Keeping Canadians Safe.” A **$5** cover charge applies for guests.
The week concludes with a special event on **March 20** featuring throat singer **Matthew Kocel**, who will present “Healing Sounds of the Universe” at **Knox Church** from **7 p.m. to 9 p.m.** Tickets are **$46.13**, available on **Eventbrite** or at the door.
Ongoing Community Engagement
The community can also look forward to a variety of ongoing events. The **Parksville Community Centre** offers a **free drop-in youth basketball** program for ages **11-15** every Tuesday evening from **6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.**, running until April 21.
The **Rotary Club of Parksville** is welcoming new members and meets bi-weekly at the Parksville Community Centre. Additionally, their **weekly Bottle Drop** takes place every Saturday from **10 a.m. to 2 p.m.**, with proceeds supporting local initiatives.
The **Qualicum Beach Farmers Market** operates every Saturday from **8:30 a.m. to noon**, providing a vibrant hub for local commerce and community connection. The market features a range of vendors, live music, and children’s activities, promoting a lively atmosphere for all ages.
Residents looking to engage with new groups are encouraged to join the **Oceanside Women’s Business Network**, which meets monthly, or the **Qualicum Beach and Area Newcomers**, which welcomes new residents at its meetings every second Tuesday.
With such a rich array of events scheduled, the PQB community is poised for a vibrant and engaging March, fostering connections among residents and visitors alike. Whether attending workshops, community gatherings, or film screenings, there are ample opportunities to learn, socialize, and enjoy the local culture.
