The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) has announced a significant investment of $9.3 million in Innovative Bridge and Transition Grants aimed at enhancing educational pathways for residents. The funding will assist individuals in transitioning to postsecondary education, job training, and high-demand careers. Among the beneficiaries, the Regional Office of Education 47, which encompasses Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside counties, has been awarded $337,500, while Black Hawk College in Moline will receive $202,220.

These grants are part of a broader initiative designed to expand access to bridge programming, adult education pathways, and essential support services. The aim is to meet the evolving needs of both learners and employers in Illinois. Brian Durham, Executive Director of the ICCB, emphasized the importance of these grants in opening doors to educational and career opportunities across the state.

“The Innovative Bridge and Transition Grant Program continues to be one of our most powerful tools for opening doors to education and career opportunities across Illinois,” Durham stated. He elaborated that these funds enable colleges to create strong, seamless pathways for learners, helping them acquire necessary skills and connect with in-demand industries, ultimately leading to long-term economic mobility.

The IBT Grant Program specifically targets projects that assist adults and youth who may encounter academic, linguistic, or socioeconomic barriers when entering college and the workforce. Through focused instruction, advising, and practical training, the program facilitates the transition from foundational learning to certificate, degree, and workforce programs.

Durham noted, “Our community colleges continue to innovate and collaborate to ensure more Illinoisans can access and succeed in postsecondary education.” He highlighted that the IBT program is instrumental in removing obstacles that prevent learners from advancing toward meaningful and fulfilling careers.

The fiscal 2026 grants will support a diverse array of initiatives, including adult education bridge courses, high school-to-college transition programming, and the expansion of career pathways. Additionally, the funding will enhance student support services and foster partnerships that link education with real employment opportunities, reflecting a commitment to adapting educational strategies to meet the needs of today’s workforce.
