The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) has allocated a total of **$9.3 million** in Innovative Bridge and Transition Grants aimed at improving educational pathways for residents transitioning into postsecondary education and high-demand careers. Among the recipients, the **Regional Office of Education 47**, which serves **Lee**, **Ogle**, and **Whiteside counties**, will receive **$337,500**. Additionally, **Black Hawk College** in **Moline** has been awarded **$202,220**.

These grants are part of a broader initiative to expand access to bridge programming, adult education pathways, and transition services tailored to meet the evolving needs of both learners and employers. According to **Brian Durham**, the Executive Director of ICCB, “The Innovative Bridge and Transition Grant Program continues to be one of our most powerful tools for opening doors to education and career opportunities across Illinois.” He emphasized that these grants empower community colleges to forge robust pathways that help students acquire essential skills, connect with in-demand industries, and achieve long-term economic mobility.

The Innovative Bridge and Transition (IBT) Grant Program specifically supports projects designed for adults and youths who may encounter academic, linguistic, or socioeconomic barriers to entering college and the workforce. Through targeted instruction, advising, and hands-on training, the program facilitates a smooth transition from foundational learning to certificate and degree programs.

Durham highlighted the importance of innovation and collaboration among community colleges, stating, “Our community colleges continue to innovate and collaborate to ensure more Illinoisans can access and succeed in postsecondary education.” The IBT program aims to dismantle obstacles that hinder learners from advancing toward fulfilling careers.

The funding for fiscal year **2026** will support a diverse array of initiatives. These include adult education bridge courses, programs designed to facilitate high school-to-college transitions, career pathway expansion, student support services, and partnerships that link educational experiences to real employment opportunities.

By providing essential resources and support, these grants represent a significant investment in the future of education in Illinois, ensuring that residents have the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of today’s job market.
