Granville Library Hosts Health Screenings and Love Stories in February
The Granville branch of the Putnam County Public Library District is set to host a series of health screenings and a captivating historical presentation in early February. These events aim to promote community health and provide an engaging cultural experience.
Health screenings will be conducted by the Illinois Health Care Consortium (IHCC) at 15:00 on the first Wednesday of each month through February. Residents can receive free checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, and oxygen levels. This initiative underscores the library’s commitment to enhancing public health and wellness within the community.
In addition to health services, the library will feature a unique historical presentation titled “Cupid Reimagined: Tales of Love and Mischief.” Scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on February 5, 2024, this event will be led by historical presenter Michelle Gibbons. Gibbons will depict Cupid as a playful goddess of love, exploring the character’s evolution from the Roman god of desire to the commercialized figure associated with Valentine’s Day.
The presentation promises to be both entertaining and informative, blending fictional tales of matchmaking and romance with a historical context. Gibbons plans to engage the audience with stories that combine elements of magic and time travel, illustrating how the concept of love has transformed over the centuries.
The Granville branch is located at 214 S. McCoy St. For more information regarding the events or to inquire about upcoming programs, interested individuals can contact the library at 815-339-2038.
These initiatives reflect the library’s ongoing efforts to serve as a hub for community engagement, fostering both health awareness and cultural appreciation among residents.
