Putnam Libraries Host Health Screenings and Valentine’s Program
The Granville branch of the Putnam County Public Library District is set to host a series of health screenings and a captivating historical presentation in early February. These events aim to engage the community while promoting health awareness and cultural enrichment.
Beginning on the first Wednesday of February, the Illinois Heart and Vascular Institute (IHCC) will provide free health checks at 3 p.m. These screenings will include assessments of blood pressure, blood sugar, and oxygen levels, offering residents an opportunity to monitor their health at no cost.
In conjunction with the health screenings, a historical presentation titled “Cupid Reimagined: Tales of Love and Mischief” will take place on February 5, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. Renowned historical presenter Michelle Gibbons will take attendees on a journey through the origins of Cupid, from a Roman deity to a modern symbol of love, while exploring the evolution of Valentine’s Day and its commercialization in the 19th century.
Gibbons will entertain the audience with fictional tales that intertwine matchmaking magic and time-traveling romance, shedding light on the playful aspects of love and relationships. This unique presentation aims to provide both entertainment and insight into the cultural significance of love throughout history.
The Granville branch is located at 214 S. McCoy St.. Community members interested in attending either event or seeking additional information are encouraged to contact the library at 815-339-2038.
These initiatives reflect the library’s commitment to serving as a resource for health and cultural education, inviting residents to participate in enriching experiences and fostering community connections.
