Surrey Resident Wins $89,762.50 in Bright Nights Raffle
Surrey resident D. Bouillet is celebrating a significant financial windfall after winning $89,762.50 in the annual Bright Nights 50/50 raffle. The raffle, which took place in British Columbia, had a total jackpot of $179,525, with the winner receiving half of the amount. Tickets for the event were exclusively available to residents of B.C., and sales closed on December 23, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. The draw occurred the following day at noon on December 24.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
The Bright Nights raffle is a fundraising initiative benefiting the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. This charity represents over 4,800 professional firefighters across 56 communities in British Columbia and Yukon. Proceeds from the raffle and its associated events directly support programs for burn survivors, including the Burn Camp and the Home Away Program. These initiatives provide essential accommodations for survivors, firefighters, and their families traveling to Vancouver for medical treatment.
The Bright Nights 50/50 raffle is an extension of the Burn Fund’s largest fundraising event, the Bright Nights light festival, which is currently taking place at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey. The festival, which will conclude on December 28, 2023, has become a beloved tradition, attracting families and individuals eager to enjoy the festive displays and support a noble cause.
Raffle tickets were sold at various prices, making it accessible for many participants. The pricing structure included $15 for a single ticket, $40 for three tickets, $70 for six tickets, and $250 for 25 tickets. This pricing strategy not only encouraged participation but also maximized the funds raised for the Burn Fund.
Community Engagement and Impact
The success of the Bright Nights raffle highlights the community’s commitment to supporting local firefighters and those affected by burn injuries. The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund has been instrumental in providing critical support and resources to individuals and families facing the challenges of burn recovery.
As D. Bouillet enjoys this unexpected win, the impact of the Bright Nights 50/50 raffle extends far beyond the prize money. It reinforces the importance of community involvement in charitable events and the ongoing efforts of first responders to assist those in need. The funds raised through this initiative will ensure that vital programs continue to operate year-round, making a real difference in the lives of burn survivors and their families.
