Comox Legion Boosts Addiction Recovery with $1,000 Donation
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160 in Comox has made a significant contribution of $1,000 to the Comox Valley Recovery Centre (CVRC), enhancing support for residential addiction recovery services in the region. This donation was officially presented during a visit to the CVRC facility in Courtenay, where representatives of the Comox Legion highlighted the importance of local recovery initiatives.
Al Astles, a member of the Comox Legion, stated, “The Legion’s mission is rooted in service to veterans, their families, and the broader community.” He emphasized that supporting local recovery services reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening the overall health of the Comox Valley.
Long-Standing Commitment to Recovery
Established in 1976, the Comox Valley Recovery Centre is dedicated to offering abstinence-based residential recovery programs for men dealing with substance use disorders. As the Centre approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026, it remains focused on providing long-term treatment, counseling, and transitional support aimed at helping individuals regain stability and reconnect with their families and communities.
Troy Dunham, Chief Administrative Officer of the Comox Valley Recovery Centre, stressed the importance of community support in the recovery process. “Donations such as this help sustain programs that give people the structure and encouragement they need to move forward in their lives,” he remarked.
The collaboration between the Royal Canadian Legion and the CVRC underscores a shared mission of service and resilience.
Common Goals in Service and Support
Brian Chow, Board President of the Comox Valley Recovery Centre, highlighted the parallels between the two organizations. “The Legion has long stood for service and support, particularly for those who have faced hardship,” Chow noted. “That spirit aligns closely with the work of the Recovery Centre. This contribution helps ensure that individuals in our region have access to recovery services when they need them most.”
The donation from the Comox Legion not only supports the Centre’s immediate needs but also reinforces the broader community commitment to aiding those in recovery. As both organizations continue their work, the impact of such contributions is felt throughout the Comox Valley and beyond, fostering a supportive environment for individuals on their journey to recovery.
