Stony Plain Secures 14th Consecutive Award for Financial Reporting Excellence

The Town of Stony Plain has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2024 Annual Report. This recognition marks the fourteenth consecutive year that the Town has been honoured for its exemplary financial reporting practices.

The CAnFR is awarded to municipalities whose annual reports exceed the standard requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. The evaluation criteria include organization, clarity, and the effectiveness of communication regarding the municipality’s financial performance to both residents and stakeholders.

Teri Stewart, Manager of Financial Services, highlighted the importance of this recognition, stating, “This recognition reflects the Town’s continued commitment to strong financial management and transparency.” Stewart emphasized that preparing the Annual Report is a collaborative effort across the organization, aiming to present financial information that aids residents in understanding the management and investment of public funds within the community.

The Annual Report serves as a vital communication tool between the Town and its residents. Stephanie Barsby Boisvert, Manager of Corporate Communications, explained, “Our goal is to present complex financial information in a format that is clear, accessible, and engaging so residents can easily understand how their municipality is performing.” This approach not only informs residents but also fosters a sense of trust in the Town’s financial practices.

The CAnFR is valid for one year, and the Town of Stony Plain plans to submit its 2025 Annual Report to the GFOA in June 2026 for consideration. Residents and interested parties can access the 2024 Annual Report on the Town’s Reports, Studies and Plans page, which showcases the municipality’s financial health and operational success.
