A new mural celebrating Canada’s technological innovations was unveiled in downtown Windsor on the morning of September 29, 2023. Created by the artistic team from Haunted Zoo, the mural is prominently displayed on the Red Piston building located on Chatham Street, near Caesars Windsor. This striking artwork highlights significant Canadian inventions, including the walkie-talkie, the telephone, and zippers, culminating in a larger image that forms the national flag of Canada when viewed from a distance.

The mural is part of a docu-series produced in collaboration with filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth, which will be broadcast on Bell Fibe. This initiative aims to showcase Canada’s contributions to global innovation. According to Yvonne Pilon, CEO of WEtech Alliance, “It’s showcasing so much of the Canadian innovation, so the innovation that is Canada’s gift to the world. It’s also a display of partnership. This collaboration between Red Piston and Haunted Zoo illustrates what can happen when tech and art come together.”

Artist Jeff Denomme from Haunted Zoo expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Usually, I do things almost neon, so I had to kind of innovate myself as well at the same time, but I’m super happy that it’s finally done and finally dropped. On to the next one.” His comment reflects the creative evolution involved in bringing this mural to life, emphasizing the blend of artistic vision with technological themes.

The unveiling of the mural not only adds a vibrant visual element to Windsor but also serves as a reminder of the country’s legacy of innovation. By integrating technology and art, the mural fosters a sense of community pride while inspiring future generations to recognize and contribute to Canada’s ongoing narrative of creativity and invention.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote arts and technology in Canadian cities, encouraging collaboration between different sectors. As Windsor continues to develop its cultural landscape, projects like this mural are vital for showcasing the city’s potential and celebrating its unique heritage.
