Onyx Boox Launches Palma 2 Pro Color E-Reader with Advanced Features
Onyx Boox has unveiled its latest innovation, the **Palma 2 Pro**, a color e-reader designed to enhance the reading experience for users worldwide. This second-generation device builds on the success of its predecessor by offering an impressive array of features, including a vibrant color display, SIM card support, and access to the Google Play Store, allowing users to download a wide range of apps.
The **Palma 2 Pro** is equipped with a **6.13-inch Kaleido 3 e-paper display** that boasts a black-and-white resolution of **824 x 1648** pixels at **300 PPI** and a color resolution of **412 x 824** pixels at **150 PPI**. This screen can display **4,096 colors** and is designed to be flush with the bezel, protected by a layer of glass. Users can enjoy reading at night with adjustable front lighting, which offers both warm and cool lighting options.
Advanced Specifications and User-Friendly Features
Underneath its sleek exterior, the **Palma 2 Pro** is powered by a **Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G** octa-core processor, complemented by **8GB of RAM** and **128GB of internal storage**. This configuration makes it one of the most powerful e-readers available today. It supports **Bluetooth 5.1** for audio playback and internet browsing via Wi-Fi, and a SIM card slot enables data-only usage, allowing access outside traditional Wi-Fi coverage.
This e-reader’s battery life is supported by a **3,950 mAh** battery, ensuring long-lasting power for extended reading sessions. Weighing only **175 grams** and measuring **159 x 80 x 8.8 mm**, the **Palma 2 Pro** is portable enough to fit in a pocket, making it ideal for on-the-go reading.
The device also incorporates a **Power Button with Fingerprint Recognition**, along with dedicated volume and page-turn buttons. Additionally, it supports the **Inksense Stylus**, which facilitates note-taking and PDF editing, making it a versatile tool for both casual readers and professionals.
Enhanced Reading and Writing Experience
The **Palma 2 Pro** runs on **Android 15**, a relatively new version for e-readers, which provides more up-to-date security features and ensures compatibility with popular apps. This includes **Neoreader**, the stock application that allows users to sideload books and supports various formats, including **PDF, EPUB, MOBI**, and **DJVU**. Notably, Onyx Boox has optimized the Kindle app for E Ink displays, eliminating animated page turns for a smoother reading experience.
While the color e-paper screen offers exciting possibilities, it does come with limitations. The lower resolution and potentially fuzzy images may affect the quality of color illustrations and writing experiences. Users looking for a more tactile feel when writing might find the smooth surface less satisfying compared to other e-readers that incorporate textured screens.
The customizable **E INK Control Centre** enhances usability by allowing adjustments to refresh rates, contrast settings, and various display options tailored to the user’s needs. Gesture support is another innovative feature, enabling users to perform specific functions through simple screen swipes.
The **Onyx Boox Palma 2 Pro** has already garnered attention for its impressive specifications and user-friendly capabilities. As the device becomes available, its unique blend of portability, performance, and flexibility with Android apps positions it as a strong competitor in the e-reader market.
Despite some drawbacks in color display quality and writing feel, this device represents a significant advancement in e-reader technology, particularly for those seeking a color option without being locked into a specific ecosystem. As **Michael Kozlowski**, a notable expert in the field, highlighted, the **Palma 2 Pro** excels in reading capabilities but may prompt users who prioritize writing to consider alternative devices.
With its official release anticipated in **March 2024**, the **Onyx Boox Palma 2 Pro** is set to make waves in the world of e-reading, appealing to a broad audience eager for innovative features and enhanced functionality.
