Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board Achieves High Graduation Rates
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) has been recognized for its impressive graduation rates, ranking among the top 12 of 72 school boards in Ontario. According to a recent news release, the board holds the fourth position among all English-speaking school boards in the province. This assessment derives from data compiled by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) for the 2023-2024 academic year, alongside information from the Ontario School Information System (OSIS).
ALCDSB’s graduation rates have consistently exceeded the provincial average for the past four years. Notably, the graduation rate for the 2020-2021 academic year reached an impressive 91.4 percent. This achievement reflects the board’s dedication to fostering academic success among its students.
Commitment to Student Success
Sonya Melim, Superintendent of Education for the ALCDSB, emphasized the board’s commitment to supporting students who may be at risk of not graduating. “Through a tiered system of intervention and individualized programming, the board ensures that every student receives the support they need to achieve success,” Melim stated. She expressed pride in the graduation rates, highlighting them as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff in promoting academic excellence.
To qualify for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students must complete a total of 30 credits, which include 17 compulsory credits and 13 elective credits. Additionally, they are required to pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, complete 40 hours of community service, and acquire a minimum of two online credits.
By prioritizing student needs and implementing targeted interventions, the ALCDSB continues to demonstrate its commitment to educational excellence. The board’s achievements not only reflect strong academic performance but also the effectiveness of its strategies aimed at ensuring every student reaches their full potential.
