Sudbury Biochemist Launches Science-Driven Cosmetic Line
A Sudbury entrepreneur, Florish Adebayo, is revolutionizing the cosmetic industry with her science-based approach through her company, Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics. While the brand’s aesthetic is characterized by its pink and elegant packaging, the products themselves are rooted in rigorous scientific research. Adebayo, a recent graduate with a degree in biochemistry from Laurentian University, has dedicated her efforts to developing non-toxic and cruelty-free beauty solutions.
Adebayo recently moved into a small workshop located on Barrydowne Road in Sudbury, where she aims to expand her company after winning two business pitch competitions. The first was hosted by The Foundry at Laurentian University earlier this year, followed by a second competition organized by the Northern Ontario Black Economic Empowerment Program. Her brand name, which creatively spells “beauty,” reflects the diverse perceptions of beauty across individuals, while “Rishrish” is a personal nickname.
The product line includes lip balms, oils, scrubs, and a comprehensive makeup collection. Adebayo’s formulations are designed to address specific skin needs, particularly for those with sensitive or eczema-prone skin. Each product undergoes a meticulous testing process to ensure safety and efficacy before reaching the market.
Adebayo’s passion for skincare stems from her own experiences with eczema, a condition she has battled since childhood. During her studies, she focused on the scientific research behind skin conditions, enhancing her understanding of effective skincare solutions. “I got frustrated, and when I was 17, I said I couldn’t take it anymore,” she recounted. This frustration led her to experiment with creating her own products, which later evolved into a business venture.
In 2021, while in her first year at university, Adebayo invited friends to test her products. The positive feedback encouraged her to launch a pop-up market at the university, which marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey. As demand increased, she expanded her offerings to include body care products, applying extensive research to formulate effective and affordable solutions.
Finding the right ingredients posed challenges, particularly in establishing a price point that remained accessible for customers with skin conditions. Adebayo’s own experience has informed her product development, leading her to create body oils that provide relief from eczema flare-ups. “I use this every single day, and it controls my flare-ups,” she said, noting the blend of castor, jojoba, coconut, and sweet almond oils in her formulations.
Among her popular products is a body yogurt made from shea butter and mango, designed to soothe the skin. While the name suggests a dairy product, Adebayo clarifies, “There’s no yogurt in it,” explaining that it contains water, oils, and oatmeal for its calming properties. All her products are handmade in small batches, ensuring quality control throughout the production process.
Looking ahead, Adebayo envisions expanding her operations. “In the future, I want a bigger lab,” she stated, expressing interest in partnering with a laboratory for larger-scale manufacturing while maintaining her unique formulas.
Customers can purchase Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics through the company website at www.beiwtyrish.com or at the Sudbury Market every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00 at the Elm Place Mall. For updates and new product releases, Adebayo encourages followers to connect with her brand on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
This innovative approach to cosmetics not only highlights scientific principles but also addresses the needs of individuals seeking clean beauty options. Adebayo’s journey demonstrates the potential for combining academic knowledge with entrepreneurial spirit in the beauty industry.
