Morris Hospital YMCA Marks One Year of Community Success

The City of Morris formally recognized the Morris Hospital YMCA during a city council meeting on March 4, 2025, celebrating the facility’s first anniversary since its opening in December 2024. Mayor Chris Brown read a proclamation highlighting the YMCA’s achievements and its positive impact on the community over the past year.

Missy Durkin, Chief Business Development Officer of the Greater Joliet Area YMCA, expressed gratitude towards the City of Morris for its ongoing support. The facility, which spans 60,000 square feet, has become a central hub for community engagement, recording over 250,000 visits in its inaugural year. Additionally, the YMCA has successfully engaged 10,000 participants through various programs and memberships.

In her remarks, Durkin emphasized the YMCA’s success, stating, “We’re very excited it has exceeded expectations. We’re very appreciative of the City of Morris and all that it’s done to support us. We know that the Y’s been a huge partner along with Morris Hospital.”

The Morris Hospital YMCA opened its doors debt-free, a significant achievement that reflects careful planning and community involvement.
