Lethbridge Polytechnic has secured a commendable position as the ninth top research college in Canada, according to a recent report by Research Infosource Inc. This ranking signifies an improvement from its 2024 standing of tenth and a rise from its eleventh position in 2023. The institution’s consistent performance highlights its growing reputation in the field of applied research among Canadian colleges.

Dr. Kenny Corscadden, Vice-President of Academic and Research at Lethbridge Polytechnic, emphasized the significance of this recognition. “Being acknowledged for our applied research, especially when compared with numerous other institutions across Canada, is a remarkable achievement for us,” he stated. He further noted that the polytechnic has demonstrated its ability to compete nationally over the past three years.

One of the cornerstones of Lethbridge Polytechnic’s research initiatives is the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence, established in 1999. This has paved the way for the Centre of Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE), which has broadened its research scope across five key areas: agriculture, food and environment; business and technology; health and wellness; justice and public safety; and sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

In 2025, researchers at Lethbridge Polytechnic have been working closely with Dr. Chandra Singh, who holds the position of Results Driven Agriculture Research Chair and directs the Advanced Post-harvest Technology Centre. Their collaboration focuses on developing non-destructive crop testing methods, showcasing the polytechnic’s commitment to innovation in agricultural science.

In addition to its overall ranking, Lethbridge Polytechnic has excelled in specific categories within the College Spotlight rankings from Research Infosource. The institution placed fourth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Partnerships and AI Completed Research Projects. It also ranked second in Research Intensity Dollars per Researcher, with nearly $190,000 allocated per researcher, and third in College Research Income, amassing almost $9.5 million. Furthermore, it achieved ninth place in Research Partnerships.

Research Infosource Inc. is recognized as a credible source for research and development intelligence in Canada, providing vital rankings and information about research universities, hospitals, colleges, and companies. This latest ranking reflects Lethbridge Polytechnic’s position as a leading institution in applied research, reinforcing its appeal to students and researchers aiming to impact diverse industry and community sectors.
