Sudbury Entrepreneur Launches Science-Driven Cosmetic Line
A Sudbury entrepreneur is reshaping the cosmetics industry with a scientific approach through her brand, Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics. Founded by Florish Adebayo, the company focuses on creating non-toxic, cruelty-free products that cater to individuals with sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Utilizing her background in biochemistry, Adebayo aims to blend beauty with science, ensuring each product is backed by research.
Adebayo recently moved into a small workshop on Barrydowne Road in Sudbury, where she dedicates her efforts to expanding her product line. After graduating with a degree in biochemistry from Laurentian University in June 2023, she has ambitious plans for her brand, especially after winning two business pitch competitions this year. The first was hosted by Laurentian University’s The Foundry, followed by recognition from the Northern Ontario Black Economic Empowerment Program.
The name of her company, ‘Beiwty,’ is a deliberate variation of ‘beauty,’ reflecting Adebayo’s belief that beauty is subjective. The second part of her brand name, Rishrish, is derived from her nickname. Adebayo’s product offerings include lip balms, oils, scrubs, and a complete makeup and skincare line, all formulated with scientifically proven ingredients.
Adebayo’s journey into cosmetics began out of personal necessity. Having suffered from eczema since childhood, her condition often worsened in the winter months. “I got frustrated, and when I was 17, I said I couldn’t take it anymore,” she stated. This frustration drove her to research and experiment with product formulations before officially launching her business.
In 2021, while in her first year at university, she invited friends to test her creations. Their positive feedback inspired her to hold a pop-up market on campus, which marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey. As demand grew, she expanded her offerings to include body care products, dedicating substantial time to research the best ingredients and formulations.
Finding the right price point for her products has been a challenge, as Adebayo aims to keep her items affordable for those suffering from skin conditions. Her body oils, which incorporate beneficial ingredients like castor, jojoba, coconut, and sweet almond oils, have provided her with significant relief from eczema flare-ups. “I use this every single day, and it controls my flare-ups,” she explained, noting that she has not experienced a severe flare-up since regular use of her oils.
Among her popular products is a shea butter and mango body yogurt, which is designed to soothe skin without being overly thick. “There’s no yogurt in it,” she humorously clarified, explaining that it contains water, oils, and oatmeal to assist with eczema relief. All products are handmade in small batches, allowing Adebayo to maintain strict quality control.
Looking forward, Adebayo envisions a larger laboratory where her products can be manufactured at scale without compromising her formulas. “I have been reaching out to a few labs to see, but it’s a bit expensive,” she noted.
Consumers can purchase Beiwty Rishrish Cosmetics through the company website at www.beiwtyrish.com or at the Sudbury Market on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00 at the Elm Place Mall. Adebayo also invites customers to follow her brand on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram for updates and new product releases.
Through her innovative approach, Florish Adebayo is not only addressing her personal skin challenges but is also empowering others with her science-based cosmetic solutions.
