Lethbridge Polytechnic Achieves Top Ten Ranking in Canada

Lethbridge Polytechnic has secured its position as one of the leading research colleges in Canada, achieving a notable ranking of ninth among the top 50 institutions, as reported by Research Infosource Inc.. This marks an improvement from its previous standings of tenth in 2024 and eleventh in 2023, showcasing the institution’s commitment to applied research.

According to Dr. Kenny Corscadden, Vice-President of Academic and Research at Lethbridge Polytechnic, this recognition reflects a significant accomplishment in a competitive landscape. He stated, “Over the past three years, we have consistently demonstrated our ability to compete at the national level.” The polytechnic’s focus on applied learning and research opportunities has positioned it as an attractive choice for students and researchers eager to make a meaningful impact.

Historical Growth and Research Focus

Lethbridge Polytechnic’s journey in applied research began with the establishment of the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence in 1999. Since then, the institution has significantly expanded its research capabilities through the Centre of Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CARIE). This centre has developed expertise across five key areas: agriculture, food and environment; business and technology; health and wellness; justice and public safety; and sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

In 2025, researchers at Lethbridge Polytechnic are collaborating with Dr. Chandra Singh, Results Driven Agriculture Research Chair and Director of the Advanced Post-harvest Technology Centre, to explore non-destructive crop testing methods. These initiatives highlight the polytechnic’s ongoing commitment to innovative research that addresses real-world challenges.

Impressive Rankings and Future Prospects

In addition to its overall ranking, Lethbridge Polytechnic achieved high marks in various specific categories. It ranked fourth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Partnerships and completed AI Research Projects, demonstrating its leadership in this emerging field. The institution also stands out as second in Research Intensity Dollars per Researcher, with nearly $190,000, and third in College Research Income, generating close to $9.5 million. Furthermore, it secured the ninth position in Research Partnerships.
