Pacekids Celebrates Education with Open House Event in Calgary
Pacekids, a Calgary-based organization, hosted an open house on January 27, 2024, to commemorate the International Day of Education. This free, family-friendly event welcomed members of the community to explore its facilities and learn more about the various support programs available for children with diverse needs.
Engaging Activities and Information Sessions
The open house offered tours of specialized learning areas, including classrooms, a gym, sensory rooms, and therapeutic spaces. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Pacekids’ transdisciplinary therapy team, which includes speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and behaviour specialists. Interactive activities designed for children provided a lively atmosphere, while information sessions focused on enrollment in Early Childhood Services (ECS) for the 2026-2027 school year.
“At Pacekids, we support children with a variety of diverse needs,” said Torey Perez, clinical manager at Pacekids. “These can include children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and many other learning needs or diagnoses. Our goal is to promote their learning in a way that is best suited for them.”
Expanding Capacity and Focus on Early Intervention
Pacekids is experiencing significant growth, having expanded its capacity by approximately 20 percent to better support families in the Calgary area. Currently, the organization assists around 600 families through a range of wraparound family support programs. Perez emphasized the importance of early intervention, particularly for children facing challenges related to speech and language development, peer relationships, and social skills.
“These are key years for children,” Perez stated. “We are building a foundation to help them excel as they continue to grow.” The emphasis on early intervention aligns with the organization’s commitment to providing tailored support that meets the individual needs of each child.
