McGill University Achieves Top Rankings in Global Subject Assessment

McGill University has solidified its reputation as a leading institution in global academia, achieving significant recognition in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, released on January 21, 2026. The latest results highlight improvements across various disciplines, affirming McGill’s status as one of Canada’s premier universities.

In the assessment of 11 subject areas, McGill secured a position in the world’s Top 100 for every discipline evaluated. This accomplishment came despite competition from hundreds of institutions, including over 1,500 universities worldwide. Notably, McGill ranked in the Top 3 nationally in 10 of the 11 subjects assessed.

Strong Showing in Key Disciplines

The results reveal that seven subjects at McGill improved their global standings compared to the previous year, showcasing enhancements in overall academic quality. Among these, the following disciplines achieved notable rankings:

– **Medical and Health**: Tied for 27th in the world out of 1,230 universities, up from 29th last year.
– **Psychology**: Ranked 27th out of 694 universities.
– **Law**: Placed 33rd out of 450 universities.
– **Life Sciences**: Achieved 36th out of 1,211 universities, an improvement from 40th last year.
– **Education Studies**: Ranked 37th out of 830 universities, up from 38th last year.
– **Social Sciences**: Secured 40th out of 1,202 universities, improving from 41st last year.
– **Arts and Humanities**: Placed 49th out of 817 universities, advancing from 51st last year.

In addition to these high-ranking subjects, McGill also excelled in other areas. The university placed 66th in Physical Sciences among 1,497 institutions, 72nd in Engineering out of 1,555 universities (up from 73rd), 74th in Computer Science out of 1,165 universities (improving from 76th), and 91st in Business and Economics out of 1,067 institutions.
