A new scholarship initiative by Algoma Family Services (AFS) is set to benefit graduating secondary students in the Algoma District. The program offers a one-time award of $2,500 to support students entering fields that serve the community, particularly in child and youth care, social services, psychology, or social work.

To be eligible, students must graduate in June 2024 and demonstrate active involvement in areas focused on mental health promotion, substance use or addictions awareness, and online gambling awareness. This scholarship is part of AFS’s efforts to commemorate its 25th anniversary of service in the community.

Ali Juma, CEO of Algoma Family Services, expressed the importance of this scholarship in recognizing the commitment of young individuals. “The scholarship honours the passion and the dedication of young people who are already making a difference and aspire to continue that work through careers that support others,” Juma stated.

The scholarship application process is open until May 16, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. Interested students are encouraged to apply to take advantage of this opportunity, which underscores the community’s investment in future generations.

For more details, students can access the application form and guidelines on the Algoma Family Services website.
