Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association Welcomes New Members
The Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association (LTAA) is actively welcoming new members, aiming to connect former students, teachers, and community members with the school’s ongoing initiatives. According to Alan Clegg, a founding member and past chairman, membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the school’s objectives and fostering relationships that have faded over time.
Clegg emphasizes that joining the association provides an excellent opportunity to reconnect with old friends. “Some people left the school and kept up with modern technology and stayed in touch with their classmates,” he explained. “But there are some classes that went different directions— the school is over a hundred years old— and now years later, in life, they’re trying to get together and renew some old friendships.” The LTAA serves as a valuable resource for those looking to organize reunions or social gatherings, ensuring a lasting connection to the school community.
History and Contributions of the Association
The LTAA was established as a registered society in 1993, with Clegg as one of its founding members. Since its inception, the association has hosted three significant school reunions: the first in 1993 to celebrate the opening of the new high school and the demolition of the old one, the second in 2000 for the new millennium, and the third in 2012 to mark the school’s centennial. Clegg noted, “We celebrated our school’s 100-year anniversary. We are the oldest secondary school in Surrey.”
While there are no current reunions planned, Clegg mentioned that yearly graduating classes continue to hold their own reunions. “I’m not aware of anything being planned in the immediate future,” he added.
The association has made substantial contributions to the school, providing scholarships for graduating students. Since its formation, the LTAA has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships, underlining its commitment to supporting academic achievement and fostering the next generation of leaders.
Membership Details and Contact Information
Becoming a lifetime member of the LTAA costs just $10, making it an accessible option for anyone looking to engage with the alumni community. Interested individuals can obtain more information or arrange payment by emailing [email protected]. The association maintains an active presence on social media, with a Facebook page at @LordTweedsmuirSecondaryAlumni, providing updates and facilitating connections among members.
As the association continues to grow, it remains dedicated to its mission of supporting the school and fostering relationships among its alumni. Those interested in becoming part of this vibrant community are encouraged to reach out and join the ongoing legacy of the Lord Tweedsmuir Alumni Association.
