Green Acres Students Pack Christmas Hampers for Local Families
Grade 5 and 6 students from Green Acres School actively participated in a charitable initiative on Tuesday afternoon, packing bags of candy for Christmas hampers at the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry. This year, the registry has seen a significant increase in need, with 1,710 families in Brandon registering for hampers, up from 1,551 last year.
The registry is seeking nearly 200 individuals or groups to adopt families and provide Christmas hampers that align with the organization’s offerings. Interested participants can register on the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer website, where they will receive a shopping list detailing the items required to fill the hampers.
Call for Volunteers and Community Support
In addition to the adoption program, the registry is looking for volunteers to assist with the delivery of hampers throughout the city on December 17 and December 18. Volunteers began the packing process on November 27, demonstrating a strong community commitment to supporting those in need this holiday season.
Brandon’s Mayor Jeff Fawcett also joined the effort, helping to fill the hampers alongside community member Samantha Falloon. Their participation highlights the importance of local engagement in addressing the needs of families during the festive period.
The Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry plays a vital role in ensuring that families facing challenges can enjoy a festive season. The increase in registrations reflects the growing demand for support, making community involvement more essential than ever. By adopting a family or volunteering, residents can directly contribute to spreading holiday cheer in their community.
For those interested in supporting this initiative, more information is available on the registry’s website, where individuals can learn how to make a positive impact this Christmas.
