Vancouver’s Beloved Chewie’s Chicken and Biscuit to Close Doors
Chewie’s Chicken and Biscuit, a cherished brunch spot in Vancouver, has announced its imminent closure, leaving many patrons heartbroken. The restaurant will shut its doors on November 23, 2023, as its block is set for redevelopment. Since its inception in 2018, Chewie’s has become a staple in the Kitsilano neighborhood, known for its fried chicken sandwiches and signature biscuits.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Chewie’s expressed gratitude to its loyal customers. “Since 2018, our little Biscuit shop has been part of Kits — but you are the ones who made it special,” the restaurant wrote. They described how patrons turned the establishment into “your weekend ritual, your comfort spot, your ‘just one biscuit… okay maybe three’ place.” The message resonated strongly with the community, reflecting the deep connections formed over meals.
The menu at Chewie’s has always been a highlight, featuring a diverse array of fried chicken options, indulgent sides like mac and cheese, and a well-loved brunch selection. The restaurant’s atmosphere has fostered friendships and countless memories, making the news of its closure particularly poignant for many regulars.
Despite the closure, Chewie’s has reassured its customers that this may not be a permanent goodbye. “This is NOT goodbye — just ‘see you soon.’ Kitsilano is home,” the restaurant stated, igniting hope for a return in the future.
As news of the closure spread, many patrons took to social media to express their sadness. One user commented, “So sad to hear this! You made that corner of Kits special. Relieved it’s not goodbye forever though!” Another shared their family tradition, stating, “Chewie’s Chicken & Biscuit Co has been a staple for our family every time we travel across the country to visit our daughter at UBC. No trip to Vancouver ever felt complete without stopping in for those biscuits, tots, and fried chicken.”
The heartfelt responses highlight the significant role Chewie’s has played in the community, and the emotional impact of its departure is palpable. The restaurant has created a loyal following, with many expressing their eagerness for its potential return.
Chewie’s Chicken and Biscuit is located at 2822 West 4th Ave., Vancouver. For those wishing to enjoy one last meal, the final day of service provides an opportunity to indulge in their favorite dishes.
As the community reflects on its time with Chewie’s, the hope remains that this beloved establishment will find a way to return, continuing its legacy in the heart of Vancouver.
