Canadian music lovers can now enjoy an enhanced listening experience as Spotify officially launches its music videos beta feature in Canada. This rollout follows the feature’s initial launch in nearly 100 markets last year. The expansion allows users access to Spotify’s extensive catalogue of official music videos, which includes studio versions, live performances, and covers.

Alongside Canada, Spotify will introduce the music videos beta to several other countries, including the U.S., Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Uganda, and Venezuela. Premium subscribers in these regions will gain access to the music video feature by the end of December 2023.

To access the music videos, users simply need to open the Spotify app on their preferred device, select a supported track, and tap ‘Switch to video.’ The music video will begin playing from the point where the audio track left off. Users can also enjoy a full-screen experience on mobile devices by rotating their screens to landscape mode. If they wish to return to regular audio listening, they can easily press ‘Switch to audio.’

The new feature provides various ways for users to discover and watch music videos. A ‘Related Music Videos’ section will be available for browsing, while artist profiles will display videos under the ‘Music’ tab. Additionally, listeners can explore genre-specific video playlists, such as 90s Video Hits and Hip-Hop Throwbacks.

While many will welcome this update, some users have expressed concerns. For instance, there have been complaints regarding Spotify’s push for video streams in podcasts, which can be distracting for those who prefer listening in the background while engaged in other activities. Users hope that the music video feature will not replicate this frustration.

As Spotify continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the integration of music videos is a significant step toward enhancing user engagement and diversifying its platform. This expansion will likely attract both new and existing subscribers who appreciate the visual aspect of music.
