A man accused of aiding notorious gangland killer Rabih Alkhalil in a jailbreak appeared in British Columbia’s Supreme Court alongside two other individuals facing serious charges. Ryan Van Gool, along with Scott and Bryce Telford, made their initial court appearances via video link on September 10, 2025. They are implicated in a conspiracy to commit murder, a plot that police claim was uncovered during the investigation into Alkhalil’s escape from custody.

The three men appeared in red prison attire, briefly addressing the court before proceedings were adjourned. The next hearing is scheduled for September 17, 2025, allowing the defendants time to secure legal representation. They consented to remain in custody until their upcoming court date.

Police reports indicate that Van Gool is not only implicated in the jailbreak but is also facing separate firearms charges stemming from an incident in Maple Ridge last year. He is one of three suspects identified in the escape of Alkhalil from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam in 2022.

Authorities have indicated that another suspect, Edward Ayoub, is currently in custody in a different province, while the third individual, John Potvin, remains at large. As for Alkhalil, federal police in British Columbia have not confirmed reports claiming his arrest in Qatar.

Crown prosecutors Alexander Willms and Kelly Johnston declined to comment outside the courtroom following the hearing. The investigation continues to unfold as authorities seek to clarify the extent of the alleged conspiracy and the whereabouts of the remaining suspects.

This report draws upon information provided by The Canadian Press, originally published on September 10, 2025. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding gang activity and public safety in the region, as officials work diligently to resolve the matter.
