A winter weather travel advisory is currently in effect for Toronto, as Environment Canada predicts periods of heavy snow and reduced visibility this morning. The advisory highlights that areas east of Highway 400, including Toronto and the Durham Region, may experience hazardous driving conditions. The weather agency has cautioned that these conditions could significantly impact rush hour traffic.

According to Environment Canada, drivers should be particularly cautious. “If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop,” the advisory stated. Flurries are expected to diminish by late morning, but the temperature will reach a high of 4 °C, feeling significantly cooler due to wind chill, which will make it feel closer to -8 °C.

More flurries are anticipated on Wednesday morning before the weather shifts to rain. The forecast predicts a high of 7 °C for Toronto on that day.

This winter season has started early for Toronto, with snowfall on November 5, 2023, breaking two decades-old records. The city recorded 9.8 centimetres of snow on that day, with additional accumulation reported early on November 6. This snowfall marks the highest two-day total for this time of year since October 21-22, 1981, when only six centimetres fell. Furthermore, November 9, 2023, has been recorded as the snowiest on this date in 54 years.
