Taylor Ward Injured in Frightening Collision at Daikin Park

A serious incident occurred during the Los Angeles Angels’ 3-0 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on August 31, 2025. Outfielder Taylor Ward sustained a frightening head injury after crashing into the stadium’s metal scoreboard while attempting to catch a fly ball hit by Ramon Urias in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Ward’s collision drew immediate attention as he lay on the field, later managing to get to his feet and signal for assistance from the Angels’ bullpen. His teammates quickly responded, rushing to his side and providing a towel to stem the bleeding from his face. The scene was alarming, prompting concern from players and fans alike.
Following the incident, Ward was transported off the field on a cart, and Luis Rengifo took over in left field, moving from his position at second base. Christian Moore then stepped in to fill Rengifo’s spot at second.
In the aftermath, Ward’s teammate Jo Adell voiced strong criticism regarding the safety of the scoreboard at Daikin Park. He stated, “He did everything he could to make a play… at the end of the day, there shouldn’t be any metal scoreboards on the baseball field. This is the big leagues. It’s ridiculous.” Adell emphasized that players should not face the risk of injury from such hazards while trying to perform their duties on the field.
This incident marks a significant moment in the history of Daikin Park, as it appears to be the first time a player has suffered an injury of this nature since the stadium opened in 2000. The venue originally featured a hill and flagpole in center field, which were deemed dangerous and subsequently removed after the 2016 season. The recent collision has reignited discussions about the safety of stadium features, and there may be calls for further changes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the Angels focus on the remainder of the season, the health and recovery of Taylor Ward will be a priority for the team. Fans and players alike will be watching closely for updates on his condition following this alarming event.
