Surrey Council Votes on Electrical Upgrades for Bear Creek Stadium
Visitors to Bear Creek Park in Newton may soon notice significant electrical upgrades at the stadium if the Surrey Council approves a contract worth $480,525.76 during its meeting on March 4, 2024. This contract, set to be awarded to Standard Electric BC Ltd., includes a spending cap of $528,578.34 for essential improvements in power service and event power distribution at the 2,200-seat venue located at 13750 88 Avenue.
The proposed upgrades are part of a broader $27.5 million project that aims to enhance facilities at Bear Creek Stadium. The stadium features a grandstand with two-thirds of its seating covered, alongside changerooms and public washrooms located beneath it. The improvements will also see the installation of an upgraded track that meets international sports standards, as well as renovated plazas that will house a concession stand and a ticket box office.
If the council approves the contract, the planned work will include several critical upgrades. These consist of enhancements to the main service kiosk and a necessary utility upgrade from BC Hydro to support the kiosk improvements. Additionally, there will be a new 400A kiosk dedicated to special event support, along with an upgrade to the grandstand’s electrical room.
The council’s decision is expected to impact not only the functionality of the stadium but also the overall experience for visitors and event organizers. Enhanced electrical services will facilitate larger events and provide better support for various activities hosted at the venue.
The community has shown strong interest in the developments at Bear Creek Park, where sports and cultural events draw significant attendance. Approval of these upgrades represents a crucial step towards modernizing the facility and ensuring it meets the demands of contemporary events.
As the council convenes to discuss this proposal, stakeholders and community members alike await the outcome, recognizing the positive implications these upgrades could have on the local sports landscape.
