Sterling Warriors Dominate Morrison in Swimming Season Opener

The Sterling Warriors showcased a commanding performance in their season opener, defeating the Morrison Mustangs with a decisive score of 96-38 in girls swimming. The Warriors not only won every event but also displayed remarkable depth across the team.
Chloe Clark emerged as a standout athlete, clinching victories in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, while contributing to two winning relay teams. Her teammate, Hazel Pham, also made a significant impact, swimming to victory in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, and participating in two relays. Emma VanHorn further bolstered the team’s success by winning the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, adding her name to the relay victories as well.
The atmosphere at the pool reflected the Warriors’ enthusiasm as they kicked off the season on a high note.
In volleyball, the action was just as intense. The Milledgeville Missiles defeated the Forreston Cardinals in straight sets, winning 25-19 and 25-21 to secure their second consecutive win of the season. Kendra Kingsby led Milledgeville with an impressive 10 kills, while Kennedy Livengood contributed significantly with seven digs and six kills. Hailee Vogt and Bree Schneiderman made notable contributions for Forreston, with six and five kills respectively.
The Sterling Warriors also celebrated a victory in volleyball, overcoming the Annawan Clippers in a tightly contested match. Sterling triumphed with scores of 25-23, 24-26, and 25-21, marking their first win of the season.
In another matchup, the Genoa-Kingston Cogs faced the Rock Falls Rockets, with the Cogs winning 2-1. Kaltrina Lecaj led the Rockets with 12 kills and two aces, while Miley Bickett provided support with 20 assists and 14 digs in a hard-fought match that ended with scores of 27-25, 16-25, and 25-14.
The boys’ golf scene saw Lena-Winslow/Pearl City achieve a significant victory over West Carroll, with a total score of 180 to 244. Luke Madigan and Grady Winter led their team, finishing first and second with scores of 43 and 44 respectively. Thomas Krontz was the top performer for West Carroll, finishing with a score of 50.
In girls’ golf, Sterling triumphed over Rockridge with a score of 212 to 224. Toni Martinez earned the medalist title for Sterling with a score of 47, while Emily Schwingle followed closely with a score of 50. Byron also celebrated a victory against Dixon, with Alayna Brant shooting a 39 to take the medalist honors.
As the season unfolds, these early victories set a promising tone for the teams in the Sterling area, showcasing their talent and determination across multiple sports.
