Second Arrest Made in 2024 Etobicoke Stabbing Case
Toronto police have made a second arrest in connection with the fatal stabbing of 36-year-old Jesse Christian Halvorsen in south Etobicoke last year. The arrest was announced in a news release on Wednesday, following the incident that occurred on the morning of September 12, 2024. During an altercation involving a group of individuals near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Islington Avenue, Halvorsen was stabbed and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter, marking him as the city’s 60th homicide victim of 2024.
Police arrested the first suspect, 35-year-old Shawn Downs-Abbot, the day after the stabbing, charging him with second-degree murder. More than a year later, on Wednesday, a second suspect emerged. Michael Jones, a 61-year-old individual with no fixed address, was taken into custody and also charged with second-degree murder.
