Residents of Sault Ste. Marie can continue their autumn cleanup efforts as the municipality announces an extension for leaf and yard waste collection. For residents on Route B, an additional week of service will be available this coming week, allowing more time for residents to dispose of their yard waste responsibly.

To participate, residents should place their leaf and yard waste in compostable bags at the curbside, coinciding with their regular garbage collection days. This initiative aims to assist residents in managing seasonal yard work while promoting environmentally friendly disposal methods.

As winter approaches, residents will also have the option to take their leaf and yard waste directly to the municipal landfill. The landfill will be open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing a convenient location for disposal when curbside collection is no longer available.

This extension is part of the municipality’s commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. By encouraging proper waste disposal, Sault Ste. Marie is helping to reduce the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills, thus benefiting the community and the ecosystem.
