RCMP Launch Intensive Search for Missing Nanaimo Man

Authorities are actively searching for a 69-year-old man with significant health issues who has been missing since September 18, 2025. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Nanaimo Search and Rescue (NSAR) are working together in efforts to locate Chun Wai Kwan, known as Danny, who was last seen at his home in north Nanaimo at approximately 15:30.

According to the RCMP, Kwan is believed to have left his residence on a recently purchased e-mountain bike. The police have expressed serious concerns regarding his health and well-being, stating, “Kwan has significant health issues. As a result, there is concern for his overall health and well-being.”

Search Efforts Underway

The NSAR has established a command post on Dumont Road to coordinate search operations. Ground searches are being conducted along nearby hiking and biking trails, with volunteers joining the effort to locate Kwan.

Kwan is described as five feet nine inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, and is bald with brown eyes. A recent photograph has been released to aid in his identification. His e-mountain bike is characterized as a black Volt model featuring full suspension, orange pedals, black saddle bags, and fat tires.

The RCMP is urging anyone with information on Kwan’s whereabouts to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345. Community support is crucial, as the search teams work diligently to find him and ensure his safety.

The situation has raised significant concern among local residents, with many expressing hope for Kwan’s swift return. The efforts of the RCMP and NSAR highlight the importance of community engagement in resolving such critical situations.
