A significant mix of rain, snow, and sleet is expected to impact various regions of Quebec as the week begins. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), conditions will vary across the province, with Montreal experiencing a transition from Sunday’s snowfall to rain on Monday morning. However, flurries are anticipated to return by the afternoon, and ECCC warns that several centimetres of snow could accumulate by Tuesday.

In Quebec City, residents can expect around 15 millimetres of rain before snow returns overnight from Monday to Tuesday. The weather is expected to be more severe in northern areas, with several warnings and special weather statements in effect. Specifically, regions such as Charlevoix, Côte-Nord, and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean could see snowfall amounts ranging from 10 to 20 centimetres, with the possibility of even greater accumulations in some locations. In the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, accumulations of nearly 10 centimetres are forecast.

The adverse weather conditions have already led to disruptions, including multiple road accidents and power outages reported on Sunday. As of early Monday, nearly 10,000 addresses were without electricity, primarily affecting the regions of Montérégie, Laurentians, and Chaudière-Appalaches, according to Hydro-Quebec.

In light of these weather challenges, the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads as the deadline for winter tire installation approaches on December 1.

As the week progresses, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
