The Prince Albert Raiders have traded the rights to Dayce Derkatch to the Regina Pats, marking a significant move ahead of the upcoming season. The announcement was made on Tuesday, revealing that the Raiders received a third-round pick in the 2026 WHL Draft in exchange for the 18-year-old forward.

Derkatch, who first joined the Raiders as a 16-year-old, showcased his potential during the 2023-24 season with a performance of 3 goals and 5 assists in 55 games. Prior to his time with the Raiders, he began the season playing for the Regina Pat Canadians in Saskatchewan AAA, where he honed his skills.

Following his reassignment from the Raiders, Derkatch participated in preseason games with the Warman Wolverines. In just two games, he made an impact by scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists, indicating his readiness for the competitive environment of the WHL.

The move to the Pats holds personal significance for Derkatch, as his father, Dale Derkatch, played for the Regina Pats for three full seasons and part of a fourth. Dale is currently the assistant general manager of the team, adding a familial connection to this new chapter in Dayce’s career.

This trade not only reflects the Raiders’ strategic planning for the future but also positions Derkatch to potentially thrive in a familiar environment with the Pats, who are looking to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season. As the WHL prepares for another exciting year, fans will be eager to see how Derkatch develops in his new role.
