Porter Airlines Launches Winter Flights from Ottawa Airport

Porter Airlines is set to launch its winter service from Ottawa Airport (YOW) this week, providing travellers with non-stop flights to five sunny destinations in the southern hemisphere. Starting within the next seven days, the airline will connect Ottawa to Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Cancun, Liberia, and Grand Cayman.

The new routes will feature a range of flight frequencies. Beginning on Saturday, Porter will offer one flight per week to Nassau and six weekly flights to Puerto Vallarta. From Wednesday, there will be six weekly flights to Cancun and daily flights to Liberia. Two weekly flights to Grand Cayman will commence next Friday.

Kevin Jackson, president of Porter Airlines, highlighted the significance of these new routes. “The launch of these routes is a celebration of our growth to new regions and another demonstration of Porter’s commitment to Ottawa-Gatineau,” he stated in a press release. He added that this winter, Porter will provide the most flights from YOW, offering a total of 24 non-stop routes.

This expansion comes as Canadian travel patterns shift, particularly following political turbulence in the United States. According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadians taking trips in the second quarter of the year has increased, while trips to the U.S. have declined by over 21 percent year-on-year.

Porter Airlines also maintains several flights to popular U.S. destinations, including Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa in Florida. Additionally, flights to Miami and Phoenix are expected to be introduced in 2026.

The announcement of these new services was initially made in June, and the updated details include higher peak frequencies than previously anticipated for flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Liberia, and Grand Cayman. This development not only enhances travel options for local residents but reinforces Porter Airlines’ commitment to providing a high level of service and style.
