Plano Public Library Unveils Exciting February Programs for Community Engagement
The Plano Public Library has announced a diverse array of programs for February 2024, aimed at fostering community engagement and creativity. These offerings include writing workshops, art classes, yoga sessions, and technology assistance. With activities tailored for various age groups, residents can participate in enriching experiences throughout the month.
Programs for Adults and High School Students
The library will host a series of events designed for adults and high school students. The **Writers Group** will meet on Thursdays, February 1, 15, and 29, from **18:30 to 20:00**. Participants can share their work and gain feedback in a collaborative environment, either in person or via Zoom. No prior registration is necessary.
Every Friday in February, beginning on the **February 2**, certified instructor **Jen Penn** will lead a **Yoga with Jen** class from **10:30 to 11:30**. This session aims to alleviate winter stress and uplift spirits. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own mats, although limited library mats will be available.
On **February 9**, participants can join the **Painting with Petite Palette** class from **18:30 to 20:00**, where they will create an acrylic painting on canvas under the guidance of a local artist. A fee of **$15** is required at the time of registration.
For those needing assistance with technology, the **Technology Help Desk** will be available on **February 10** from **12:00 to 13:00**. Library visitor **Steve Goodwin** will offer support for various devices such as computers, tablets, and smartphones. This session is free and does not require registration.
Another notable event, **New Life for Old Bags**, will take place on **February 14** from **10:30 to 12:00**. Community members can participate in a project that transforms plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. For further details, contact **Ceil Carey** at [email protected].
Special Events for Children and Families
The library has also organized engaging programs for children and families. The **Bookworms** program, scheduled for **February 3** from **17:00 to 17:45**, invites children in grades K-3 to enjoy stories, crafts, and healthy snacks. Registration is required, and parents are encouraged to sign up their children in advance.
On **February 5**, young artists aged 6-10 can join the **Create Art with Petite Palette** class from **16:45 to 17:45**, while those aged 10-18 can participate from **18:15 to 19:15**. Each session costs **$5** and focuses on creating unique acrylic paintings.
Musical activities are also on the agenda, with **Making Music** on **February 9** from **10:30 to 11:10**. Led by music teacher **Jessica Ortega**, this class is designed for children aged 0-5 and requires adult supervision. Registration is necessary.
The library will host its **Hugs and Kisses Storytime** on **February 16** at both **10:30 to 11:00** and **18:00 to 18:30**, featuring stories, songs, and crafts for children aged 3-5. Parents must remain in the library during these sessions.
In addition, the **Knit and Crochet Group** offers two opportunities: an in-person meeting every Monday from **16:00 to 18:00** and a Zoom session every Thursday from **10:00 to 12:00**. These groups invite participants of all ages to learn and share their skills.
