Parry Sound’s Snowfest: A Weekend of Fun and Festivities
The upcoming Snowfest in Parry Sound promises a vibrant mix of activities and entertainment, kicking off on February 13, 2024. This three-day event coincides with the Family Day long weekend, offering residents and visitors a chance to engage in a variety of winter festivities.
Friday, February 13 sees the Snowfest opening with a delightful evening of food and music at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. The doors will open at 17:00, with dinner served at 17:30. Following the meal, attendees can dance to the tunes of The Sunny Slope Bootleggers, starting at 20:00. Tickets for the entire evening are priced at $35, while dance-only tickets cost $15. This portion of the event is restricted to individuals aged 19 and older. To reserve a spot, residents are encouraged to contact Jim MacCoubrey at 705-773-2542 or visit Ritchie Insurance at 39 James St.
On Saturday, February 14, the festivities continue with a Valentine’s-themed pancake breakfast hosted by the Parry Sound High School music department at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. From 08:00 to 11:00, guests can indulge in an all-you-can-eat pancake buffet, complete with sausages and beverages. Tickets are available for $8 for adults, while students and seniors can enjoy the breakfast for $5. Children under four can participate for free.
In addition to the breakfast, the Stockey Centre will screen family-friendly films on Saturday afternoon. “The Smurfs” will be shown at 12:00, followed by “Moon the Panda” at 14:00. Both films are free to attend, and each participant will receive a treat.
The weekend’s activities culminate on Sunday, February 15, starting with a Pickleball Tournament at the Bobby Orr Community Centre at 09:00. Eight teams will compete, and registration is limited to the first eight teams that sign up. The entry fee is $10 per team, with online registration available.
Later in the day, the Great Parry Sound Toboggan Races will take place at Kinsmen Park from 13:00 to 15:00. In addition to the races, participants can enjoy free hot chocolate, an inflatable snow slide, and other outdoor games. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display at 19:00. If weather conditions do not permit the fireworks, they will be rescheduled for Monday, February 16.
Family Day itself, on February 16, will be celebrated at the Bobby Orr Community Centre with an array of activities for all ages from 11:00 to 14:00. Starting at noon, burgers and hot dogs will be served, and Tim Hortons will provide complimentary hot chocolate and Timbits. An ice rink will be open, along with board games available in the Hart Trophy Room. Additionally, the Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre will offer discounted two-hour trail passes and equipment rentals for families.
