New Stairs to Enhance PKOLS Summit Ahead of Cell Tower Development
Construction of new stairs at the summit of PKOLS, located on Churchill Drive, is set to commence on September 29, 2023. This initiative aims to facilitate the upcoming installation of a new cell tower, scheduled to begin in early 2026. The project, undertaken by the District of Saanich, is expected to improve access to the summit while supporting advancements in telecommunications infrastructure.
During the construction period, safety protocols will necessitate the closure of certain areas around the summit. These measures are intended to protect both workers and visitors. Additionally, the project will lead to the temporary loss of two parking stalls, which may impact those using the area for recreation. Trail entrances and exits near the summit will also experience periodic closures, further emphasizing the need for caution among visitors during this time.
The construction of the stairs is projected to take approximately eight weeks to complete. This timeline indicates that the project will likely conclude by late November 2023, allowing for the area to be restored for public use before winter.
The introduction of the new cell tower is part of a broader initiative to enhance network coverage and capacity, a growing need in many communities. As urban populations continue to expand and reliance on mobile technology increases, projects like this one are essential for maintaining effective communication services.
In summary, the stair construction at PKOLS marks an important step towards modernizing infrastructure in the region. By improving access to the summit, Saanich is not only enhancing visitor experience but also laying the groundwork for future technological advancements. Visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and stay informed about any changes to access during the construction period.
