The Nanaimo RCMP have initiated a criminal investigation following the discovery of a deceased man who had been reported missing. The body of Mahadi Redwan, aged 23, was found on November 12, 2023, near the southbound lanes of the old Island Highway, located between Turner and Mostar roads.

Redwan was last seen on November 2, 2023, when he arranged for a ride with a colleague to Courtenay. His absence was noted when he was not at home the following day, November 3, when he was expected to be picked up. Security footage shows him at Thrifty Foods at Longwood Station around 20:00 on November 2.

Investigation Details and Public Appeal

Authorities believe that Redwan’s death occurred shortly after he was last captured on video, likely around 20:15 on the same day. The police have classified the case as a criminal investigation, suspecting foul play. However, they have emphasized that this is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

The Nanaimo RCMP are appealing to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might have been in the vicinity of the old Island Highway around the time of Redwan’s last sighting. Those with dash camera footage from that area are encouraged to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien, spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP, stated, “Pictures of Mr. Redwan have been released. If anyone believes they saw someone matching his description, please reach out.” He added that individuals who were driving, walking, or cycling near the area during that time may have valuable information.

This tragic event has drawn attention to the importance of community involvement in aiding investigations. The police are hopeful that public tips will help uncover the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Mahadi Redwan.

As the investigation progresses, the Nanaimo RCMP are committed to providing updates to the public while ensuring the integrity of the ongoing inquiry.
