The Manitoba Government has established two new offices under the Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC) in Virden and Shoal Lake, marking a significant initiative to support local farmers. This move follows the closure of similar offices by a previous administration, aiming to enhance the resources available to rural communities.

Ron Kostyshyn, the province’s Agriculture Minister, emphasized the importance of these offices in facilitating access to essential programs and services. “By opening new MASC offices in Virden and Shoal Lake, we are making it easier for producers to access programs and services closer to home, where they are needed most,” he stated.

The newly opened offices are designed to provide in-person assistance for crucial areas such as crop insurance, lending, and other agricultural resources. They will play a vital role in supporting the agricultural sector in Manitoba through effective risk management, financing options, and advisory services.

Local Leaders Endorse New Initiatives

Virden’s Mayor, Tina Williams, has expressed her support for the establishment of the agricultural office in her community. “The value of having a local office for our surrounding farm communities cannot be overstated,” she remarked, highlighting the positive impact on local farmers and agribusinesses.

The Virden and Shoal Lake offices are now operational and are expected to serve approximately 650 to 700 farmers and agribusinesses in the vicinity. Each service center employs four full-time staff members alongside a dedicated team of insurance adjusters, ensuring comprehensive support for local agricultural needs.

Currently, MASC manages a total of 12 service centers across Manitoba, providing critical access to agricultural insurance, lending, and various agricultural programs and services. This expansion reflects the provincial government’s commitment to bolstering the agricultural sector and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities.

As agriculture remains a cornerstone of Manitoba’s economy, the establishment of these offices is poised to contribute significantly to the resilience and success of the region’s farming operations. By offering localized support, the Manitoba Government aims to empower farmers and ensure sustainable agricultural practices in the years to come.
