Longtime radio host Steve Duffy has died at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with multisystem atrophy disease. Duffy, known for his influential presence on the airwaves of Vancouver Island, passed away on November 11, 2025, a date that holds significance for many as it commemorates the sacrifices of veterans.

Duffy’s wife, Susan Duffy, shared a heartfelt statement reflecting on his legacy. “It is a testament to his unyielding spirit that he departed on November 11, a day that honours the bravery and perseverance he embodied,” she said. The couple’s two children, Jordan and Shannon Duffy, survive him, along with a community that admired his work and character.

Duffy’s radio career spanned an impressive 44 years, beginning at CJAV-FM in Port Alberni in 1972. In a retrospective interview with CHEK News in February 2017, he recalled how he entered the industry. “I was hired there, I guess right off the street,” he said. His journey began with a phone call from a friend who encouraged him to pursue his passion for radio.

Throughout his career, Duffy became a familiar voice on CFAX 1070, where he endeared himself to listeners with his warmth and engaging style. His son, Jordan, noted in an obituary that Duffy was a “pillar in the local broadcasting community.” He emphasized his father’s commitment to local sports, highlighting Duffy’s belief in the power of athletics to unite individuals and foster community spirit.

Beyond broadcasting, Duffy was known for his diverse interests. He enjoyed painting, traveling, bicycling, and music, all of which enriched his life and the lives of those around him. “Steve cherished time spent with his family and his many friends, whose lives were brightened by his kindness, laughter, and generous spirit,” Jordan added.

As the community mourns the loss of this beloved figure, his impact on the radio industry and beyond will be remembered fondly by family, friends, and listeners alike. Susan Duffy encapsulated her husband’s spirit with a touching farewell: “As a devoted husband, father, and friend, he illuminated the lives of those around him.”

Steve Duffy’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire many in Victoria and across Vancouver Island for years to come.
