Joliet Schools Transition to E-Learning Due to Severe Cold
Both the Joliet Public Schools District 86 and Joliet Township School District 204 have announced a shift to e-learning days on January 15, 2024, in response to dangerously low temperatures. This decision aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid a severe cold weather warning issued by the National Weather Service.
In a statement, District 204 clarified that “Coaches and Activity Sponsors will contact students directly if events, practices, or games are canceled.” This proactive communication is intended to keep students informed about any changes to scheduled activities. Meanwhile, District 86 confirmed that no after-school activities will take place on Monday.
Weather forecasts predict that temperatures will plummet on Sunday night, with wind chills expected to range from 15 to 25 degrees below zero. Such extreme conditions pose significant risks, prompting both school districts to prioritize student safety by proceeding with e-learning.
As the cold weather persists, parents and guardians are encouraged to stay updated on school communications for further information regarding any potential school closures or continued e-learning days. The districts are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
For now, students are advised to prepare for a day of remote learning, as both districts aim to maintain educational continuity while addressing health and safety concerns.
