IVCC Eagles Soar to Victory with Strong Performances in Basketball

The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) women’s basketball team secured a decisive victory against Blackhawk Technical College on March 7, 2024, improving their record to 2-0. The Eagles dominated the nonconference matchup in Oglesby, winning 78-58.

Leading the charge for IVCC, Ella Derossett showcased her skills by scoring 19 points, complemented by six rebounds and three steals. Her performance was pivotal in the team’s success. Ava Hatton and Ashlyn Ehm also made significant contributions, each scoring 14 points. Hatton further enhanced her game with six rebounds, five assists, and four steals, while Ehm added four steals and three blocks to her tally. The Eagles displayed a well-rounded offense, with Quinn McClain contributing 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Additionally, Jenna Setchell came off the bench to score 10 points, along with five rebounds and three assists.

In men’s basketball action, IVCC faced off against Blackhawk Technical College the same day and emerged victorious with an 85-77 scoreline. Ameer Anderson led the Eagles with an impressive 25 points, alongside nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Ahmir Woods and Kamrin King also made notable contributions, scoring 20 and 14 points, respectively. This victory improved IVCC’s men’s team record to 1-1 for the season.

IVCC Volleyball Team Faces Tough Defeat

In contrast to the basketball teams’ successes, the IVCC volleyball team concluded their season with a loss to Milwaukee Area Technical College on March 6, 2024, in a Region IV Tournament match. The Eagles, seeded 12th, were defeated by the 5th-seeded Stormers in a closely contested match, finishing with scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-23.

Despite the defeat, Kaitlyn Anderson stood out for IVCC with 10 kills and seven digs. Aubree Acuncius also played a crucial role, recording 17 assists, seven digs, and two aces. Camille Huckleba contributed defensively with 10 digs, but the team could not overcome the Stormers, ending their season with an overall record of 11-16.

The contrasting fortunes of the basketball and volleyball teams highlight the dynamic nature of IVCC athletics as they continue to strive for success across different sports.
