The stage is set for an exhilarating showdown as the top two women’s curling teams, Rachel Homan and Silvana Tirinzoni, prepare to face off in the finals of the CO-OP Tour Challenge on October 29, 2023, in Nisku, Alberta. This matchup marks the third consecutive championship game between these elite teams in the Grand Slam of Curling series, underscoring their dominance in the sport.

In the semifinals held on Saturday, October 28, Homan secured her spot in the final through a tense draw-to-the-button shootout, narrowly defeating Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg with a score of 5-4. This victory represents Homan’s record seventh consecutive appearance in a Grand Slam of Curling final, showcasing her team’s remarkable consistency and skill. Homan leads a formidable squad from the Ottawa Curling Club, which includes third Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew, and lead Sarah Wilkes.

Tirinzoni, on the other hand, advanced by overcoming her Swiss compatriot Xenia Schwaller with a decisive 7-3 victory. The women’s final is scheduled to be the first championship draw of the day at the Silent Ice Center in Nisku, beginning at noon ET, and will be broadcast on Sportsnet One.

On the men’s side, the competition is equally fierce, featuring Bruce Mouat and Matt Dunstone in a showdown to determine the champion of this major event. Dunstone, representing the Fort Rouge Curling Club, is riding a wave of momentum after winning the AMJ Masters last month and the PointsBet Invitational in Calgary. In the semifinals, he triumphed over John Epping in a nail-biting 6-5 finish, while Mouat defeated Italy’s Joël Retornaz with a score of 4-2.

The men’s final is set for mid-afternoon on Sunday, October 29, at 2:30 p.m. ET, also airing on Sportsnet One. Dunstone’s recent performances highlight his team’s confidence, as he noted, “We’ve won two events in a row now. We’re not playing to the level we know we need to yet. But we’re making a lot of good shots when we absolutely have to, and there’s certainly something to be said about that.”

In addition to their impressive semifinal victories, Saturday’s quarterfinals showcased a series of compelling matches. Notable results included Homan defeating Kerri Einarson 9-3, Tirinzoni outpacing Isabella Wrana 9-4, and Dunstone besting Niklas Edin 7-2.

As the finals approach, both Homan and Tirinzoni express their commitment to continuous improvement. Homan remarked, “We’re working hard when we’re at home, and even when we’re here at events like this, we’re trying to get better every game.”

With high stakes and fierce competition, the finals of the CO-OP Tour Challenge promise to deliver thrilling moments and showcase the pinnacle of curling talent. Fans eagerly await the action as the best teams in the world compete for the coveted title in Nisku.
