Peter Baylis, the beloved anthem singer for the Halifax Mooseheads, has died at the age of 62 after a battle with aggressive brain cancer. His passing was announced on March 15, 2024, by his wife, Jennifer Baylis, through a GoFundMe page established in May when he was diagnosed with glioblastoma.

In her heartfelt message, Jennifer shared that Baylis was surrounded by lifelong friends and family in his final moments. “Last night, lifelong friends and family surrounded him with their love, laughter, and a few stories, while he slept, dreamt, and readied himself for his next gig,” she wrote. “Peter stepped into the light at 2:55 am AST this morning.”

The Mooseheads organization expressed their sorrow over Baylis’ death, describing him as a cherished member of their family. “Peter’s voice wasn’t just heard – it was felt. His unwavering dedication and contagious passion left an enduring mark on our organization and the fans in Moose country,” the team stated.

Baylis was not only known for his singing but also for his inspiring outlook on life, particularly in the face of his diagnosis. In an interview with CityNews in June, he remarked on his approach to dealing with his illness. “(At birth) you are handed a deck of cards… And I happened to draw this card, and that is the card I have to play,” he said. “So, going forward, I’m going to play this with all the positive mental attitude I possibly can.”

The Mooseheads community, along with fans from across the region, are mourning the loss of a figure who resonated deeply within the local culture. Baylis’ performances at games were a staple for fans, and his absence will be felt both in the arena and beyond.

Baylis’ legacy extends beyond his contributions to the Mooseheads; he was a prominent figure in the Halifax music scene, admired not only for his talent but also for his character and warmth. His ability to connect with audiences through his performances left a lasting impact on many, and he will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

As tributes pour in, the Mooseheads organization and the broader Halifax community are reflecting on Baylis’ life and the joy he brought to so many. His unique voice and passion will remain a cherished part of the city’s history.
