Greater Victoria Charity Suspends Radio Host Amid Police Investigation
A prominent charity in Greater Victoria has suspended a longtime supporter following his arrest on charges related to child luring. Al Ferraby, a well-known radio host, was removed from the board of directors of CFAX Santas Anonymous on September 19, 2024, as the organization awaits the outcome of an ongoing investigation by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
According to a statement released by the charity’s president, Ryan Price, Ferraby was not involved in the daily operations of CFAX Santas Anonymous and the organization had no prior knowledge of the investigation. Price confirmed that the charity has not been contacted by law enforcement regarding the case.
Ferraby, who has been associated with the Bell-owned CFAX radio station since 1994, faces two counts of child luring. The charges include one count of telecommunicating to lure a child under 16 and another count for a child under 18. Both charges are linked to incidents reported in Victoria and Vancouver in September 2024.
The VPD’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit initiated the investigation that led to Ferraby’s arrest in February 2024. In response to inquiries, the VPD stated, “We are not prepared to share additional evidentiary information which may form part of the criminal proceedings.”
Ferraby is a familiar presence in the community, often seen singing the national anthem at local sports events. A spokesperson for Bell Media confirmed his suspension, stating, “We are aware of the charges and can confirm that he has been suspended, pending a police investigation. We have no further comment at this time.”
As the investigation continues, Ferraby is scheduled to make his first court appearance on September 22, 2024. It is important to note that none of the charges have been proven in court.
The situation has raised concerns within the community, as many have come to rely on CFAX Santas Anonymous for support during the holiday season. The charity has been dedicated to assisting families in need for decades, and the organization is now focused on maintaining its mission while addressing the implications of this incident.
