Freezing Rain and Heavy Rainfall Warnings Hit Nova Scotia

A significant weather shift is set to impact Nova Scotia, bringing freezing rain and heavy rainfall across the province. Environment Canada has issued warnings for much of the region, including the Halifax Regional Municipality. The forecast predicts that some areas may experience four to six hours of freezing rain before temperatures rise above 0°C, leading to a transition to rain.

Allister Aalders, a meteorologist with 95.7 NewsRadio, indicates that the combination of rain and freezing rain will begin moving into the Halifax area early Monday afternoon. “In the city, expect a few hours of freezing rain this afternoon before it changes to rain later in the day,” Aalders stated. He further noted that inland communities could face a more extended period of freezing rain, lasting up to six hours before the change occurs this evening.

As temperatures hover around the freezing mark, the rain is likely to freeze on contact. This could lead to dangerously slippery conditions for both driving and walking. Additionally, the accumulation of ice may pose a risk to trees and power lines.

When the precipitation shifts to rain, regions stretching from Yarmouth to Guysborough counties are expected to receive significant rainfall, with totals estimated between 25 mm and 40 mm. These conditions may further complicate travel and outdoor activities throughout the province.

Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and prepare for the potential challenges posed by these changing weather conditions.
