Emergency crews responded to a fire at the former Quadra Primary School in Victoria on the morning of March 16, 2024. Flames were reported inside the building, prompting a swift response from the Victoria Fire Department.

According to Colleen Mycroft, communications coordinator for the City of Victoria, the fire department arrived at the scene, located at 2549 Quadra Street, shortly after receiving the alarm. Fire Chief Dan Atkinson stated, “We were on scene for a couple of hours. Police also attended. Fire has since turned the scene over to the School District.”

Once firefighters extinguished the flames, the scene was handed over to the Greater Victoria School District. Atkinson confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. As of now, officials have not provided further details regarding the cause of the fire.

Witnesses reported seeing emergency vehicles outside the school shortly before 08:00 local time. Fire crews were observed bringing ventilation fans into the building and propping doors open to allow smoke to escape.

Authorities have not issued any additional updates on the incident, and attempts to reach the Greater Victoria School District for further comment have been unsuccessful. The investigation into the fire’s origin is ongoing, with officials expected to release more information as it becomes available.

The community remains alert as the former school site has been a topic of interest. Residents hope for a swift resolution and clarity on the circumstances surrounding this event.
