The Vancouver Canucks are poised to achieve something they have not accomplished in nearly three weeks: winning consecutive games. Following a hard-fought victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Canucks will face a formidable challenge against the Colorado Avalanche on the evening of November 8, 2025.

In their recent match against the Blue Jackets, Brock Boeser scored a crucial goal during a partial breakaway at 14:15 in the third period, breaking a 3-3 tie and securing a 4-3 win for Vancouver. Conor Garland, Drew O’Connor, and Jake DeBrusk also contributed to the scoreboard, helping the Canucks improve their record to 8-8-0. The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive loss, despite Dmitri Voronkov’s impressive performance, which included a goal and two assists.

Facing a Tough Opponent

The Canucks will not have much time to celebrate their recent success as they prepare to take on the Avalanche, who currently lead the NHL with a record of 9-1-5. Colorado is riding high after a dominant 9-1 victory against the Edmonton Oilers, showcasing their offensive prowess. DeBrusk emphasized the need for the Canucks to bring their best game: “It’s a really tough task, probably against the top team in the league. We’re going to need to bring our A game.”

Vancouver’s recent performance has been inconsistent. After achieving a three-game road winning streak in mid-October, the team has struggled, alternating between wins and losses. “It would be nice to win a few in a row,” said Garland, who recently returned from injury. “It’s a tough opponent. We’ve just got to play well.”

Coaching Focus and Player Status

Head coach Adam Foote, in his first season with the Canucks, stressed the importance of maintaining focus, particularly with a young roster. “With a young group like this, we have to stick to the process,” he noted. “We can’t get too high. We’ve got a lot of teaching going on.”

Goaltender Thatcher Demko did not participate in the game against the Blue Jackets due to missing practice the previous Friday. He last played during a win against Nashville and may be available for the upcoming match against Colorado, according to General Manager Patrik Allvin. Demko’s performance is crucial, especially after a challenging season last year when he was limited to just 23 games due to a knee injury.

In the win against Columbus, goaltender Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves, while Elvis Merzlikins stopped 21 shots for the Blue Jackets. The game marked the Canucks’ first regulation-time win in nine games, showcasing their resilience after bouncing back from a 2-1 deficit.

The Vancouver penalty kill also showed improvement, successfully thwarting all three short-handed situations against Columbus after allowing six goals in the previous four games. Coach Foote praised his team’s effort, stating, “Good teams are going to get their looks on a power play. We had way more confidence, so we pressured more.”

As the Canucks gear up for this critical matchup against the Avalanche, their ability to build on recent successes will be put to the test. With the stakes high and the competition fierce, Vancouver aims to deliver a performance that can turn their season around.
